Your training is not the reason you cannot get results

I would go out on a limb and say your training program is prolly fine

You are probably reading this and wondering what the fuck im talking about. I get it. But let’s think about this for a second. There is a 90%+ chance that your training program is designed to get you results. It has push, pull, squat, hinge, and press movements in it. It has you working on cardio, progressions for lifting, and planned rest days. I just gave you the big secret on how to program for someone. It all boils down to those 3 simple points. So that leads me to the point I want to make this morning, your life outside of the gym is why you aren’t seeing results.

Let’s dive into this, For today’s story I am going to talk about Alex, I am changing the name and details to keep identities hidden. Alex has been a long-time friend of mine and reached out to get some help with fitness. Alex struggled in the past with his relationship with food and doing too much cardio. He used to be in great shape but in his own words is “not”. I beg to differ but everyone has their own internal battles to have, and I cant change how someone sees themself.

Alex did not want to track macros or track food at all since he has had bad bouts of a terrible relationship with food in the past. It's totally cool and honestly very smart and brave of Alex to do that. That type of self-awareness is half the battle for people in his position. Alex got what I thought was one of my best programs I had ever written at the time. I had just finished some programming courses and psychology courses, so I felt as confident as ever with this program. I mean everything was meticulous and perfect. I was proud to show this program to my other friends who were trainers.

Fast forward 12 weeks and Alex didn’t make that much progress. I was distraught and couldn’t figure out why. This program was amazing, the volume was in the sweet spot and he never overreached on any days of working out. Everything was executed perfectly. Then it hit me, Alex was being lazy as fuck outside of the gym. Before you freak out I am talking about an able-bodied person in their mid-20s whose only form of exercise was the gym for 50-70 minutes 5 times per week. Alex was averaging less than 5k steps per day and was sitting ALL day for work.

This got me thinking, about how I can improve Alex’s results without changing his life too much. I know him, he won’t go outside to walk or do excessive cardio. I started by adding in 10 minutes of treadmill walking for every workout as either a warm up or a cool down. After about two weeks his lifts went up AND his body fat was starting to go down. The walking finally clicked in his head that your results in the gym are more about what you do outside the 60+ minutes per day that you train. This lightbulb moment has happened for Alex and so many other clients like him, 10-to 20 minutes of walking or moving can be the difference between you hitting your goals and feeling confident or you struggling to hit your goals and feeling defeated.

If you are struggling to get over that final hump to hit your goals or this sounds like you, come book a free 20-30 minute call with me. We can discuss whatever you like. My time is limited so I am only doing this for 3 people. FYI there are 80+ people on this email so be quick with it. Book here
