Have you ever felt like nothing works for you?

I know the pain, I have been there myself

I know the pain, I have been there before and it sucks. A lot. You already know my story, if you don’t you can read it here.

Today you need to learn about my friend, Joey ( changing the name to keep their privacy). Joey was someone who enjoyed working out, was always an active person, and ate all the right foods. He just could not put on muscle. He tracked macros, he tried fasting, he tried dirty bulking. All the dirty bulk did was make him fat, which was a fun era for him. But I digress.

Joey had tried it all for many years but could not figure out how to put on muscle. At some point after college, Joey decided just to say fuck it and keep trying. He worked weird hours during the week. Sometimes he would be on night and other times he would work the day shift, so being “ consistent” was out the window. He needed something different. To this day I still don't know what sparked Joey to start doing this but looking back it was a genius move.

He would test out different diets and different training and write down how it would make him feel. After a few weeks, he would double down on whatever the positives were. At one point he stopped squatting because he would go and sit for 8-12 hours after that session. I gave him a lot of shit for it but he (smartly) ignored me and did what was best for him. When it came to his diet, he would end up having to meal prep a bunch and bring his foods with him. All the places around him that were open past 11 p.m. were pizza shops and 7-11’s. Nothing wrong with those places but if you're trying to get as much protein as possible those aren't the spots to go.

About 6 months in of this deliberate trial and error, Joey started to make some serious progress. He was getting to his goal of being lean, putting on muscle in his arms and he found a true passion for running.

You just read about 2-3 years' worth of trial and error for Joey. Today he looks amazing and is very happy with his progress, process, and results.

So I ask you, why are you going to give up on something after only 1-3 months of trying it? Whatever diet or training plan you are currently trying has a positive to it, you just need to find out what it is.

You and Joey are no different. You don't have “ bad genetics” or a “broken metabolism”

The only broken thing you have is a broken mindset
